- Where's the Gym? Where's the Pool?
The YMCA at Virginia Tech is a campus YMCA, not a facility
YMCA like the ones you're used to seeing. It is strictly focused
on community service. If you're looking to get in shape, you can
take on of our Open University classes, but you'll not find a
gym or pool at the Y @ VT.
To
volunteer with any of our programs, you can come by our office
in 312 Squires and fill out a volunteer information form. OR,
you can download the application from our site and then email it
to
ymcasp@vt.edu or leave it in our office.
-
There are several ways that individuals
can get involved in the YMCA Student Programs and YMCA at
Virginia Tech.
-
'Volunteers' Individuals can volunteer for any of our
different programs.
-
'Program Leaders' Once an individual has volunteered for at
least one semester, they can lead the program. Program
Leaders are responsible for planning the program, recruiting
volunteers, and maintaining the details of the program.
-
'Council Members' Become a member of the Student Council.
Council members help staff in the decision-making process
for Y Student Programs.
-
'Y
Student Board Member' The YMCA @ Virginia Tech encourages
students to participate in the organization at a more
in-depth level by becoming a broad member. Students will get
an governance of non-profit organizations
-
'CCY
Represenative' Y Student Programs is a member of the
national Coalition of Campus YMCAs. Students attend an
annual conference in May and correspond with other
representatives throughout the year.
You
determine how much time you're involved with YSP. Whether it's
once a week for one hour, twice a week, or daily visits to the
YSP office, you can be a part of the Y family for an hour a week
up to 10 hours a week.
However, once you make a commitment, we ask that you continue
with that commitment until the end of the semester. If you find
that other things come up in your schedule and you cannot
continue with us for the semester, please notify the YMCA staff.
We understand that circumstances change, we'd just like to be
able to readjust the volunteers.
YES! As long as there are Program Leader
positions available, students may use this experience for internship
or practicum credits.

Virginia Tech has a number of high-quality community programs...
