The Buddy Program seeks to serve the mentally handicapped children in and around Blacksburg through the mentoring of Virginia Tech students.
Over the past year we have moved from a strictly high school-based program to one that works with students here at Virginia Tech. This new branch of the program, the On-Campus Transition Program, has become just as strong as our high school program and is still growing.
We have several goals for our volunteers and buddies:

Learn something from each other.

Provide support whenever one person needs it.

Create a friendship.

Assist in developing the buddy and volunteer’s social skills and practical experience.

Provide activities that everyone can enjoy.

Have FUN!
Our hope is for everyone to gain an experience from this program that they enjoy and remember. Volunteers often start the program without expectations and continue to volunteer throughout their time at Virginia Tech. We hope to continue expanding our reach into many aspects of the community.
