YMCA Alternative Spring Break

Young Enough to Care, Old Enough to Make a Difference!

Alternative Weekends

The Alternative Weekends (AW) is a new aspect to the ASB Program at Tech. AW gives students the chance to make a difference without the commitment of a whole week or break. The YMCA at VT will be having 2 or 3 AW where students will get the chance to go to a local community in Virginia, West Virginia, or North Carolina for the weekend. The trip will leave Friday afternoon and return on Sunday. The weekend will be spent working on similar issues as the AB program.

If you want to take a break from life and spend a weekend volunteering,
Alternative Weekends are for you!

Ashville, NC – March 28th-30th  Working in a community garden

We will be participating in a neighborhood tree planting event in a public
park within the great city of Asheville, working with a local outdoor group,
and working on a new garden project initiative that is transforming an
abandoned drug dealing  baseball field within a housing project into an
urban oasis of local food production.

Our host, Bill Whipple, has a wide variety of experience with urban
gardening, living off the land, community development and making people
laugh.  Not only is he a local Asheville artist, he has nursed what was once
a neglected city park into the thriving fruit tree edible park and garden
that it is today.
Fill out an application today and turn it into 312 Squires.
