The YMCA Alternative
Spring Breaks (ASB) Program at Virginia Tech provides students with the
chance to make a difference during their break from classes. The ASB
program gives students a great way to experience different walks of
life, to serve in a needy community, and grow in your own personal
development. The ASB program opens students up to a new culture
different from their whether it is an hour down the road or in another
country.
Students
have been across the country and beyond our own borders. The ASB program
sent its first Alternative Thanksgiving Trip in 2004. The ASB
at Virginia Tech is going through change and is expanding the program to
better serve the student volunteers and our host communities. In the
past year program leaders brought back the international trip, including
trips to Guatemala, Sri Lanka, and the Dominican Republic. These
changes are only the beginning to the growth of the YMCA ASB Program at
Virginia Tech.
