Activities

This fall at 4-H has been an exciting time.  The children took two field trips this fall.  The first field trip was to the Community Garden on Roanoke Street in conjunction with YSP's Garden Project.  The children learned about gardening and planted bulbs!  They had a great time on this field trip!  The second field trip was to the YMCA's Lancaster House on Washington Street on Halloween.  The children were able to decorate pumpkins to display in front of the house in honor of the holiday.  They enjoyed themselves!

Other days were filled with fun crafts and play time outside!  One craft was creating holiday cards for YSP's Senior Connections.  The other crafts taught the children about turtles, fall trees and finger printing.  The children particularly enjoy the opportunity to play outside.  They enjoy the swing sets, kickball, Frisbee and basketball.

We ask that our volunteers attend site consistently.   We ask that you commit yourself to the children for the small time we meet each week.  This brings about a greater reward for both you the volunteer and for the child as they can come to rely on you.  Giving some of your time each week is a small price to pay for the rewards of friendships and memories you can create!

Training is provided to all after school program volunteers and program leaders.  The goal of the training is to maximize the experience of volunteering with children.
